A.D. Koen, a senior associate of Sommers & Associates, is a 20-year-veteran reporter and editor for leading energy industry publications. Before affiliating with the firm, he was a senior account supervisor in Hill and Knowlton’s Houston office, providing counsel to a variety of energy and consulting firms.

Koen was formerly an energy correspondent for Upstream, a weekly international oil and gas business publication he helped launch in 1996. He was also a senior news editor at Oil & Gas Journal, the energy industry's leading international publication, contributing to weekly news stories and features about both upstream and downstream oil and gas activities around the world.

Earlier, as a freelance business writer, Koen's articles were published in The American Oil & Gas Reporter, Wichita Business Journal, and Petroleum Independent, the official publication of the Independent Petroleum Association of America. He has also been a consultant to political campaigns at the state level.

Koen graduated from Washburn University with a bachelor's degree in American history, and from Wichita State University with a degree in print journalism. He is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, Independent Petroleum Association of America and Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
